The background


Mobility consulting must be understood as a response to the changed demands of future professionals because more and more small and medium size enterprises are active in the international markets. The need for well-trained and educated employees who also possess international experience and inter-cultural skills is increasing.


By spending some time abroad during their training period, apprentices can early on learn different work methods, techniques, products and customer demands in a practical setting. They not only expand their professional and language skills but also and foremost their personal expertise. The business providing the training is able to internationalize its profile and to attract and motivate high performing apprentices.


According to a study by the National Agency at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education, currently less than 4% of all apprentices are spending part of their apprenticeship abroad. The mobility counselling ?Fit for Europe? of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Lübeck supports specifically small and medium size enterprises in the organization of such internships and exchanges, the acquisition of international cooperation partners, as well in the search for suitable funding opportunities. To ensure that the stay abroad turns into a resounding success for the young specialists and companies involved.

The Mobility Guidance Project is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH).

Support is given to about 40 mobility coaches at the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Chambers of Skilled Crafts, as well as a national coordination unit.
